print shop in a box

Decmber 5 - february 1

OPening reception:

December 5: 7pm - 9pm

Print Shop in a Box is a portable studio that is innovative, accessible, and exists as an ongoing resource for community partners and the public to learn more about printmaking. Each box contains a 3-D printed printing press (an open-source file downloaded from Open Press Projects), and everything a group of up to 24 participants would need to create a linoleum block print from start to finish. By creating a portable studio that is flexible, adaptable, and inclusive, we created and built upon existing relationships with rural communities in Newfoundland and Labrador to share this radical and dynamic art form, with a rich history in the province, with our communities.

Boxes were mailed out to organizations and artists across the province, with two mailed internationally. Workshops/hosting places include but are not limited to: Tuckaway Farm, Thunder Thighs Collective/Port Rexton Pride, Partridgeberry Press, Bardo-29, Union House Arts, CB Nuit, Port Saunders MUN Hub, Iceberg Gallery, VA students in Harlow, and the Stephenville Library.

Printshop in a Box is a collaborative project between the Grenfell Printshop, the Grenfell Art Gallery, and the previous Grenfell Maker Space. This project is made possible with support from Memorial University’s Public Engagement Accelerator Fund and Canada Council for the Arts.
